Councillor G Thomas referred the Council to the ‘Platinum Jubilee Merthyr Tydfil City Status Application’ report and read out in full a letter received from Lord Ted Rowlands that had been sent to Councillors in support of the application.

 

Councillor G Thomas then led the Council through the report in detail and moved the recommendation detailed in Paragraph 2.1 of the report and this recommendation was seconded by Councillor L Mytton.

 

Questions were then raised on the report by the Members and were responded to in detail by Dr J Croad and the Officers.

 

Comments on the report were also made by Members.

 

Councillor G Thomas then called for a Recorded Vote.

 

The Monitoring Officer advised that at least five Councillors had to support this proposal and asked the Members to indicate if they were in support of having a Recorded Vote.

 

More than five Members then indicated by a show of hands that they were in support of a Recorded Vote.

 

The Monitoring Officer then read out the recommendation as outlined in Paragraph 2.1 of the report:

 

‘The application for Platinum Jubilee City Status Civic Honours Competition be submitted on 8 December 2021 be approved’.
