Michelle Symonds led the Members through the ‘Moving Traffic Contraventions and School Streets’ report.

 

Councillor David Hughes and Councillor Andrew Barry both noted how they were pleased to see the report.

 

Resolved that:

 

CBC to apply for moving traffic contravention powers to enable the authority to implement school streets as well as other enforcement throughout the county borough, be approved. This will enable the authority to enforce existing restrictions which are not adhered to or any new restrictions that we implement in the future.

Michelle Symonds led the Members through the ‘National Eisteddfod 2024’ report.

 

The following questions were raised;

 

·         Will there be any consultation outside of the strategic group of what we may put into our stand for the week? 

·         Could we hold our own art competition through the schools? 

 

The Chair noted that he is looking forward to the upcoming Eisteddfod and hopes that cultural Welsh festivals can be held in Merthyr Tydfil in the future.

 

Resolved that:

 

(a)    The application for a presence at the National Eisteddfod to be held in Rhondda Cynon Taf, August 2024 be approved.

 

(b)    The WESP/WL Steering Group to support the organisation and co-ordination for the festival be approved.

Any Other Business Deemed Urgent by the Chair

The Chair thanked the Chief Executive Ellis Cooper and the Officers who worked in partnership with South Wales Police during the incident in Aberfan on the 5th of December 2023. The Chair also thanked the schools and the public for their diligence.

 

The Chair congratulated Gavin Gwynne on bringing the European Lightweight Champion title back to Merthyr Tydfil.

 

The Chair sent his deepest sympathies and condolences to Dean Davies’s family.

Acquisition of Properties at Lower High Street, Merthyr Tydfil

Minutes:

Resolved that:

 

The public be excluded from the Meeting on the grounds that it involves the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined under Part 4 of Schedule 12A of Section 100 (A) (4) of the Local Government Act 1972.

 

Further Resolved:

 

The principle of acquisition of the properties at Lower High Street is approved.
