Arising on item 12 – Ms Thomas advised the Committee that no information had been received from Cytun.

Religious Studies Examination Results 2009

Minutes:

Ms Thomas distributed copies of the examination results for schools throughout the borough which the committee then proceeded to discuss.

 

The point was raised in regard to the papers being issued prior to the meeting and it was stated that due to confidentiality this was not always possible.

 

It was requested that letters be sent to the schools concerned congratulating them on the level of results.

 

RESOLVED that

 

The Religious Studies Examination Results 2009 be noted.

 

A letter of congratulations be sent to the schools concerned.

Representation at Spring Term meeting in Swansea (March 18th 2010)

 

Nominations to the WASACRE executive

Minutes:

Ms Thomas led Committee through the item referring to the meeting held 13th November 2009 at Rhondda Cynon Taf.

 

Questions were raised in relation to the Community Cohesion Grants that have been distributed to Community Safety Partnerships and how the funding will be spent in Merthyr Tydfil.  It was agreed that Councillor Richard Thomas will meet with the Director of Customer Services to discuss how the funding has been used.

Ms Thomas led Committee through the report.

 

It was stated that the pilot project had already started in England and was due to begin in Wales with 6 schools in the summer term.  REsilience will be offered to other schools from September 2010 to March 2011.

Holocaust Issues

Lessons from Auschwitz

Minutes:

Ms Thomas circulated information in regard the Lessons from Auschwitz Project.  It was noted that Afon Taf High, Cyfarthfa High and Bishop Hedley pupils had visited Auschwitz as part of the project.

Minutes:

Ms Thomas circulated information in regard to findings in relation to the Moderation Process at KS3.

 

It was also confirmed that Cyfarthfa High School was the school representing Merthyr Tydfil.

The report on the update of the securing teacher assessment at KS3 be noted.

Progress in learning at KS2 in Religious Education

Minutes:

Ms Thomas circulated a document ‘Progress in Learning for Key Stage 2’.

 

It was confirmed that the document would be launched in the summer term and would be accompanied by a CD version.

 

Ms Thomas also confirmed that more copies of the document could be requested if required.

The information in regard to the Progress In Learning for Key Stage 2 be noted.

Ms Thomas confirmed that the Esis website had been launched in December 2009.

 

It was also confirmed that there were sections for RE and Collective Worship o the website.

Ms Thomas confirmed that the SACRE Committee had been invited by Mrs Lynne Lambe to attend and observe and act of collective worship at Brecon Road Infants School on Tuesday 29th June 2010 at 9.30am.
