Schedule of Meetings 2014-15

The spring term meeting be held on Tuesday, 3rd March 2015 at 3.30 pm at Cyfarthfa High School, Cae Mari Dwn, Queen’s Road, Merthyr Tydfil.

 

The summer term meeting be held on Tuesday, 2nd June 2015 at 3.30 pm at the Civic Centre (Conference Room 2).

Minutes:

Discussion ensued in relation to the current membership of SACRE for 2014/15, and it was RESOLVED that:

 

Vicky Thomas draft a letter in relation to the vacancies under the teacher associations membership, and for Karen Vokes to send out to Schools. 

 

In relation to the religious denominations membership, Karen Vokes to contact the current members, namely Debra Evans, Father Matthew Gibbons and Janine Brill to determine whether they wish to remain on the SACRE membership.

Vicky Thomas referred to the SACRE’s Annual Report for 2013-14 and led the Committee through the Executive Summary and responded to questions raised.

 

RESOLVED that:

 

The report be approved. 

 

The Annual Report be circulated to the Department for Education and Skills (DFES) together with the organisations as outlined in Appendix 7 of the report by the 30th December 2014.

Vicky Thomas led Committee through the Merthyr Tydfil SACRE Development Plan 2012-2015 (Academic Year) and advised of progress made on issues identified within the plan.

 

RESOLVED that:

 

The contents of this Development Plan for 2015-2015 be noted.

10.

Inspection Report Analysis Autumn 2013 - Summer 2014 pdf icon PDF 67 KB

Minutes:

Vicky Thomas referred to the School Inspection Reports in relation to the seven Merthyr Schools that have been inspected, i.e. 5 primary schools and 2 secondary schools, and led Committee through the outcomes.

 

RESOLVED that:

 

Members note the information outlined in the Inspection Reports.

·         Feedback from WASACRE meeting and AGM at Powys 2nd July 2014.

 

·         Appointments to the Executive Committee.

 

·         Representation at next meeting in Torfaen on 26th November 2014.

Minutes:

Vicky Thomas led Committee in detail through the Minutes of the WASACRE meeting held on 2nd July 2014.

 

She referred to the WASACRE list of Executive Members for 2014 and to the new members, namely herself and Gill Vaisey from Monmouthshire. 

 

Discussion ensued in relation to the next WASACRE meeting on the 26th November 2014 at Torfaen. The Chair advised that due to other commitments he would be unable to attend and the Committee were asked to inform Vicky Thomas and Karen Vokes if they were able to attend.    Lucy Draper enquired what would be agendered for the meeting with a view to attending. 

 

The Chair advised that he would be able to attend the meeting in Port Talbot on the 6th March 2015.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2015 pdf icon PDF 58 KB

Minutes:

Vicky Thomas referred the Committee to the report.   She advised that Holocaust Memorial Day is an annual event that takes place on 27th January which marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenhau concentration camp, and Schools are encouraged to participate in Holocaust Memorial Day.

 

Lynda Maddock referred to an e-mail she has received from Merthyr Library in relation to events being organised by them in the run up to Holocaust Memorial Day, and advising of the Holocaust Survivor, Eva Clarke’s visit on the 21st January.  

 

RESOLVED that:

 

Vicky Thomas to draft a letter and Karen Vokes to send out to all Schools. 

 

Lynda Maddock to send a copy of the e-mail received from Merthyr Library to Vicky Thomas and Karen Vokes.

Minutes:

Vicky Thomas referred to the RE News Website, which is funded by both Bangor University and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and advised that Schools and SACRE’s are asked to continue to support the website by contributing articles.

Vicky Thomas to draft a letter for Karen Vokes to e-mail to all Schools.
