The minutes of the meeting held on 3rd March 2015 were submitted and approved.

SACRE Membership Update pdf icon PDF 18 KB

Minutes:

Vicky Thomas gave an update on the new members of SACRE which covers NASUWT and NUT.

 

Members were advised that no interest has been received for a Free Churches Representative.  It was agreed by Members that the Free Churches Representative would change back to an Evangelical Church Representative and Vicky Thomas would follow this up. 

 

Following discussions with regard to a Roman Catholic representative, it was agreed that Councillor Kate Moran would contact Father Tasker on whether he will be willing to join Merthyr SACRE.

 

Justine Jones advised that Mark Carrington is interested in joining SACRE as a representative of the Professional Associations.    Agreed that Justine Jones will confirm this with Karen Vokes.

Minutes:

Members agreed the forthcoming meetings of SACRE:

 

·         3rd November 2015 at 3.30 pm to be held at Penydre High School  -  Lucy Draper to make a presentation at this meeting.

 

·         23rd February 2016 at 3.30 pm to be held at Twynyrodyn Community School  -  Justine Jones to make a presentation at this meeting.

 

·         June 2016 meeting to be agreed at the Spring meeting.

Minutes:

Vicky Thomas advised members of the review of assessment and the National Curriculum in Wales.   She gave an update on Professor Donaldson’s feedback to the Education Minister as follows:

 

·         The four aims designed to help all children and young people.

·         Areas of Learning and Experience.

·         Cross curriculum responsibilities

·         Subsidiarity

Feedback on WASACRE presentation by Mary Parry, Carmarthenshire LA on Motivating Boys and Improving Boys' Achievement in RE

Correspondence to be given out at the meeting.

Minutes:

Vicky Thomas went through the presentation in relation to Muslim Footballers in the Premier League which was compiled and presented to WASACRE on the 8th March 2016 by Mary Parry , RE Consultant for Carmarthenshire Council. 

 

Vicky Thomas advised that the purpose of this work was to engage, motivate and raise standards in boys, implement the literacy and numeracy framework and to develop religious education and thinking skills across the population of boys.

 

This was very well received by the Committee and several members were interested in using this framework within their Schools.

Minutes:

Feedback from WASACRE meeting at Margam, Port Talbot  -  Vicky Thomas updated members on the WASACRE meeting on the 6th March 2015.

 

Representation at next meeting at Mold, Flintshire  -  Councillor Ernie Galsworthy will be attending the next WASACRE meeting on the 25th June 2015.

 

Executive Voting for the period 2015-2017  -  Vicky Thomas to give an update to the next meeting.
